As news broke yesterday that Seattle-based rapper Macklemore has reached #1 on the Australian charts for his pro-Same-Sex Marriage single ‘Same Love,’ Australian news site Same Same interviewed the emcee on why he wrote the song. In the interview, Macklemore says:
Same Love was a song that I wanted to write for a long time but I didn’t know exactly how to address the issue…I knew I wanted to write a song about gay rights and homophobia within the hip-hop community and the world.
He goes on to talk about the use of the word gay in hip hop and how his eyes were opened. Check out the full article here.
